About

In this first beta a coach has four tabs: Today, Athletes, Programs and Calendar. Today organizes the coach’s day: what is on, what needs them, and what is coming up. Athletes is everyone on the roster, whether each one can spar or compete and why not, with their current and target weight. Programs is a light place to write training and programs. Calendar holds the sessions, repeating ones and competitions.

The beta is invite only, with a few coaches on it now.

Prototyping three ways of adding a training session, side by side, so I can compare stepping through the same task.

Questions it raised

  • Do any design enhancements matter if the product is slow?

I had major performance issues on the first run: every tap triggered a server call. I had baked in all these nice interactions and other design elements, but it really didn't matter. It reinforced how I feel about performance as the baseline. It cost me a few extra days of work, but I captured it in a new performance skill, so the baseline is checked before it becomes a problem.
